I was kind of lukewarm about Susan Rice as the next Secretary of State -- she has high qualifications, but she'd been around for a while a now -- but that's all changed. The McCarthyism-style smearing of her -- with about as much evidence as Joe McCarthy had on that laundry list in Wheeling -- by Sen. John McCain & Co. has been one of the more disgraceful episodes in modern politics. Which is saying quite a lot when you think of it. That makes her nomination and confirmation no longer an option -- but a necessity. We'll be getting a solid cabinet member -- and putting an end to swift-boating in our time.
Whaaa? She's entitled to her own opinions, not her own facts - she flat out lied for two weeks (or was told to and did). If this was John Bolton you'd be calling for heads... Diaperman50- Rebuplicans and Democrats both believed that Saddam had WMDs. You can check the quotes on Snopes.com
Saddam did use WMDs on the Kurds unless you think that biological or chemical weapons don't qualify.
Just tired of hearing this old retort. octom - Octom: you must have forgotten during Colin Powell's presentation to the UN back before the start of the Iraq War that presented all kinds of aerial photos of the stored WMDs in Iraq as well as the caves and tunnels they were held in. It was all a Bush/Cheney/Rumsfeld lie. All of it. Bush/Cheney/Rumsfeld and the rest of the Republicans in Congress had everyone fooled. So "this old retort" is not old and quite valid.
CommonSense in Philly
Anyone catch the Tom Ricks interview on Fox? Classic. wokmaster- Seemed to speak pretty authoritatively on the confusion that exists in these dogfights. As the facts come out, republicans are realizing they are looking foolish. and Susan Rice is looking smart to americans. rhodes scholar, etc. smart people are taking the country back from the republicans.
- I agree with much of what you said, hw. Republicans and Fox "News" look ridiculous in their attempt to paint this tragedy as a scandal. However, I would personally prefer to see John Kerry as the next Secretary of State - and it has ZERO to do with Benghazi.
wokmaster
So the woman who told the administration's lies to the American people can now tell its lies to the world? And will the President send her to describe the next attack on American soil as a spontaneous riot over a Youtube video, or a Tweet, or a Facebook post, then claim she has nothing to do with it when someone has the audacity to ask him questions about it? BlairW
Bunch- you must be kidding...
Supporting her just because some people you have a doctrinal antipathy towards have pointed out her deficiencies?
If her disgraceful, cowardly refusal to be made a patsy by the desperate, grasping Obama cabal as they sensed an election slipping away isn't enough to cause you to even question her suitability for the job, perhaps you can do a little journalistic due dilligence, and examine her relationship to, and treatment of any number of monstrous human rights violators like Meles Zenawi, or her shameful performance during the Rwandan Genocide in 1994, where none other than Obama advisor Samantha Power asked of Rice-
"At an interagency teleconference in late April, Susan Rice, a rising star on the National Security Council (NSC) who worked under Richard Clarke, stunned a few of the officials present when she asked, “If we use the word ‘genocide’ and are seen as doing nothing, what will be the effect on the November [congressional] election?”"
So come off it, Bunch...
Time to stop expecting people to believe you're on the side of righteousness when you reflexively side with serial failures like Susan Rice in the name of solidarity with Dear Leader Barack.
You dishonor the notion of "Journalism" with such patent hackery. Darth Bacon
BENGHAZI !!!!!!!!!!!!
That interview was a classic, Wokkie. The rightwing is taking it hard that the reality is that they aren't going to get any traction out of trying to exploit the deaths of Americans for the purpose of political expediency.
It is cute they way they just keep trying, though.
Funny how quite it has been at Attytood recently. I wonder what the reason might be?

Diaperman needs his Diaper Changed His Diaper and Head is Full of you know what!!!!!! KOOLK777- Brilliant, intellectually charged response.
For two weeks Ms. Rice blamed the 9/11 assault and the Ambassador's assassination on a video that had been posted in July. We now know and the administration has acknowledged that the attack and subsequent murders were not related to this video, that it was a terrorist attack by an Al Qaeda linked organization. The administration and intelligence community also confirm they knew this while the attack was occurring on 9/11/12
A very simple question: Why did Ms. Rice insist over the two weeks following the assassination that it was not terrorist related? And if Ms. Rice did not lie, who gave her the false information? This is basic, no partisan vitriol required.... Diaperman50
Rice's two weeks of servile lying at the behest of the Obama administration brings to mind the embarrassing image of Colin Powell standing in front of those satellite images and saying what the Bush administration told him to say. You cant reach this level in a government career if you actually have any personal integrity. Yogi Spinoza
You trot a black woman flunkie out to knowingly lie on 5 new shows to keep your propaganda lies alive and to blunt political damage. When the facts comeout caught, you attack the only news media outlet who dared report on it and then throw the race and gender card out even though you know she lied. A black woman cannot be questioned. It is like Jews and Palestinians, it doesn matter what is said, it's who says it. Congratulations on your win, country be damned. tr88- rhodes scholar flunkie? republican senator alan simpson on hardball just said that republicans today love their party more than their country. why don't you radicals move? you will never like this country so move. or stop trying to destroy it.
This is the type of thinking that allows Philadelphia to vote fro one party for 60 years as it goes down the rathole. And how a President gets 100% in the same wards with as Civil Rights "icon" Jesse Jackson said "up to 50% black male unemployment". Results dont matter, telling the truth doesnt matter, even to the media especially to the media) winning and sustaining the failed bureaucracies matter. tr88- prove that they lied. you can't. give it up. if obama got away with something, he got away with it. you can't prove otherwise and now you can't shut up about it. poor baby.
In the ultimate bit of irony, Mitt Romney finished with 47% of the popular vote.

Mr. Bunch couldn't be critical of her since he would be called a racist. FletcherT
What a laugh. We all know Rwanda wasn't genocide and we all know Benghazi was all about a video with 300 views. The sheeple will believe anything. Baaaaaaaaaah teardownthisfishwrap
Let's see...who's opinion should I believe regarding Benghazi...Tom Ricks, who's more accomplished and has more knowledge and about these types of attacks than all of the pundits on Fox combined...or some members of the Goober Squad - fish wrapper, tr88, Yogi, Darth, Blair and Diaperman? Hmmm... wokmaster- I didnt catch Tom Ricks saying trotting out Rice to knowingly lie about an attack on our embassy killing 4 people including the Ambassador qualified her for Secretary of State. Or was that you projecting your opinion.
tr88 - Maybe he would have spoke about Susan Rice if Fox didn't cut him off after 90 seconds for stating his opinion.
wokmaster - So in other words, you have no clue and just made it up. We already know that. Is it really your opinion that being sent out to lie about what ricks called a relatively small terrorist act qualifies Rice to be Secretary of State? I wonder if Ricks would say that in-person to the families of the dead Americans?
tr88 - "I wonder if Ricks would say that in-person to the families of the dead Americans?"
Spare us with your phony concern for the families. You couldn't care less about an Ambassador who worked for President Obama - or his family. You and the rest of the Fox-watching bobbleheads have been brainwashed into believing that there was some kind of conspiracy. Don't get me wrong, I blame Fox, knowing full well that you have no mind of your own.
But, yeah, I think I'll believe what Ricks has to say before I listen to a know-nothing like you. wokmaster
Republicans are opposed to black Secretary of States - nevermind Condoleeza Rice & Colin Powell. What a laugh.

===]]] Let's see...who's opinion should I believe regarding Benghazi... [[[===
Looks like the Repubs think that Condi Rice is someone whose opinion should be trusted:
--snip--
Former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice believes the death of the U.S. ambassador to Libya and three other Americans was not due to any breaches in protocol, pointing instead to the fog created by chaotic situations like the attack on the Benghazi consulate.
Rice, now a professor at Stanford University, told Fox News that it's difficult to know exactly what is going on in situations like this, made more complicated by the necessity of diplomats to often step from behind security walls to do their work effectively.
"It is not very easy in circumstances like this to know precisely what's going on as it's unfolding," she told Fox's Greta Van Susteren. "There are protocols in place, I have no reason to believe they weren't followed, but it is not very easy in circumstances like this to know precisely what's going on as it's unfolding."
Rice also noted the inherent dangers of diplomacy in insecure countries like Libya.
"You can't keep your diplomats in a bunker, you want them out doing their work," she says. "You want to make certain you're making the right safety precautions for them, as well."
--snip--
Talking point sleuth
Will caved into truth and criticized the hypocritical double-standard by the left yesterday, but today, predictably, felt compelled to knuckle under to the expected doctrine and let his masters know he can still be relied on when the chips are down. There are future book deals and Media matters subsidies to be considerd. tr88- The conspiracy theories never end...by the way, why do you care what Will Bunch thinks?
I tend to agree with him on this one. Yes, I'd rather see the president nominate John Kerry but part of me wants Susan Rice just to shove it up the rear end of Goober Nation.
The present incarnation of the GOP lacks a fundamental seriousness about it. Keep it up, guys. You'll soon be looking back at the last election in awe that your guy got 47% of the popular vote. wokmaster
"Obama/Rice lie about Benghazzi? Never!" - Administration who told Lockheed to illegally delay layoff notices until after the election.
Sheeple. Baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah teardownthisfishwrap
You gotta love tr88's logic: Will posts whatever his masters tell him to post. He has no choice. He must post whatever they want. He an't post anything different.
Except when he posts things they don't like.
Say - tr88 - you wouldn't happen to vote Republican, would you?
Talking point sleuth
I'm wondering if there's any particular reason why Attytood Republican toadies constantly fantasize about Will living under the thumb of some powerful authority that decides what he can and can't write about.
Hmmmmm. Fantasies about authority. Might be that whole looking-for-a-daddy thing? Talking point sleuth
You know, in the real world, when you double down on a bad hand you end up losing twice as much. I think Wok is right. Very soon the Republican party is going to look back longingly on the 2012 election as a time when they won at least SOME of their races. Hamlet- Hamlet, to be honest, I'm surprised he did that well. Just imagine if the economy had been a little bit further along...
just think how many more votes Obama would have received if the party opposite had worked with him ON ANYTHING for the good of the country, instead of the record number of filibusters and unprecedented obstruction from the GOP...
It's all downhill from here. Pass the popcorn. wokmaster
There is a reason right wing toadies believe will is constantly under the thumb of some nefarious conspiratorial authority -- extensive research shows the Republican brain believes in authoritarianism. They believe in the authority, and assign this worldview to their judgments. Notice the consistent lack of detail from the 'she lied' crowd. They don't have any specifics -- its self-evident. They heard the detail from the talking head but they can't remember it - probably because they were doing something else while listening. Murrayman- "There are future book deals and Media matters subsidies to be considerd." . . . . tr88's problem is as old as sin. The sin of envy, that is.
Rice thought she could turn to her Duncan, do an "around the world" and "walk (wag) the doggie" trick and hope the American public would would give her a trophy. Sorry, suzie, but the only ones who bought into the dog and pony tour are administration apologists, like those on this board! Right To Be Heard
Leftism really is a religion...
It's blasphemous to question any aspect of "our lord and savior". I mean, even when Will questioned the president's drone policies he was called a whiner...
It's amusing... and sad... at the same time. michael_b
What michael_b means is absurd propogandist politicizing of an attack on a US consulate as conspiracy is "questioning", and anyone who doesn't go along with the meme treats the POTUS as lord and savior. The Republican mind - authoritarianism. Right To Be Heard, right on cue, with another very passionate speech without a shred of detail. Murrayman
Funny how wingnuts like michael refer to President Obama as "a lord and savior". You guys think more of Obama than I do. It's really kind of creepy. wokmaster- No, wokkie, I was quoting (hence, the quote marks) Jamie Foxx.... and, you're right - it is kind of creepy.
michael_b - Nah, you guys all refer to him as a "messiah", "chosen one", "savior", etc. Don't deflect. You guys seem to believe he's incompetent one minute and think he pulls strings in the BLS to increase the odds of his re-election the next. So which is it, Mikey??
wokmaster - I've never refered to him as anything but president.
Deflection is your specialty, wokkie.
btw, I see you've had an avatar change of heart.... michael_b - You just referred to him as lord and savior. I know, I know...you were just quoting someone else.
Btw, I change my avatar regularly. Didn't have anything to do with your nonsensical minutiae. wokmaster - Sure it didn't.
michael_b - You must think you're more important than you really are. Maybe I'll change it back when I get home.
wokmaster
McCarthyism? that seems about as overwrought an accusation as some of the GOP comments against Rice.
At this point with Benghazi there are a few things that seem obvious. 1) the Dept of State muffed up the security requests and failed to note the warning signs. That's not Rice's fault, that's on Sec Clinton
2) The Obama Campaign and the Obama Administration conflicted, and the campaign won -- coming off the democratic convention, where the killing of OBL and silencing of AQ was a major theme, the campaign didn't feel it was in their candidate's best interest to state that AQ was alive and well, and operating in a country in which the US engagement was supposed to have been an example of "leading from behind" with regards to international cooperation
3) Susan Rice, as UN Ambassador, probably had the poorest luck of any administration officials since she was available for the talk shows to promote the idea that Benghazi was all the fault of a video -- but again, it's gotta go above Rice's head on that one.
As for McCarthy and his accusations of communist influence in US foreign policy, it turns out he was right, even if you find his methods inappropriate. General Turgidson
Here's another big fat lie for the Sheeple at Attytood, from just yesterday - Baaaaaaaaahhhhhh:
"“The Affordable Care Act reduces the deficit considerably,” White House Press Secretary Jay Carney told reporters today. " teardownthisfishwrap
"You trot a black woman flunkie out to knowingly lie on 5 new shows to keep your propaganda lies alive and to blunt political damage. "
Anything I have to say about this would be redundant to what any decent reader of this comment is thinking. Hamlet
The GOP is still in a froth over F&F which got no traction outside of Fox News. McCain in particular continues to soil what little reputation he had left after 2008. chasing history
"It's all downhill from here. Pass the popcorn. "
Yep! After losing this election the Republicans in state governments all over the country are going even more racist, misogynist and generally all-around loony right.
On top of that, the Rs decided that the dog whistles they used in the election were too subtle for their mouth-breathing base so they are being openly racist. I love how, when asked, Bill O'Reilly not only refused to apologize for his election night "Traditional America" rant, he called it "sage advice". I bet the only reason posters like tr88 haven't resorted to the N-word is because they know they'll be banned from the site. Hamlet- "It's blasphemous to question any aspect of "our lord and savior". . . . . At least it's not treason, like questioning the War in Iraq circa 2003. Where's all the bluster now from the Right about giving aid and comfort to the enemy by questioning the Commander-in-Chief?
- Who, exactly, was convicted of treason for questioning the war in 2003?
michael_b - I still have yet to hear a wingnut express outrage at the people who committed this act. All of the phony outrage is directed at either Susan Rice or the President.
wokmaster
"I still have yet to hear a wingnut express outrage at the people who committed this act." They don't even know who it is. Instead, we get suggestions that before the Election, the Administration wanted to look good regarding their alleged successes against AQ. Uh? It completely denies who actually acted in Bengha1i. Murrayman
This was/is politics, pure and simple. Susan Rice will be the next Secretary of State. Prior to the election, the 24/7 Benghazi chorus from Fox, etc was a (failed) attempt to blunt the credit Obama could take for eliminating Bin Laden. Dimplomatic postings in dangerous places like the cesspool that is the Middle East are by definition dangerous. That's what Ricks was basically saying to the Himbo on Fox. But all the right-wingers, who still have the taste of George Bush's b*llsack in their mouths from an 8-year tongue bath, evidently believe that the country is unable to distinguish between a tragedy in some foreign hellhole and 3000 dead in lower Manhattan. abendteuer
Enough! I'm pretty sure the terms "right-wingers" and "wingnuts" are not compliments. Somebody take a shot at defining them so everyone can enjoy them. Thanks. philly2flag
Sure, be glad to. Generally, a right-winger is a middle class (often lower middle class) person who is easily duped by scapegoat propaganda promulgated by multinational corporations for the purposes of the enrichment of a very small elite, usually at the expense of the right-winger himself (cf. idiot). Hamlet- Pretty comprehensive. I would also add... tend to have an overinflated opinion of their own role in society, seeing themselves as noble "makers" constantly imperiled by hordes of dusky parasites, leeches and freeloaders attempting to drain the makers of their precious bodily fluids.
abendteuer
...and a wingnut is a less intelligent version of a right winger. Hamlet- Well done. However, "wingnut" stands for right wing nut job.
wokmaster
"Who, exactly, was convicted of treason for questioning the war in 2003?" . . . . . Despite serious accusations made by the White House, Attorney General, and ranking GOP members of Congress, not to mention the right-wing media cabal, not one daring journalist was ever convicted, though many were muted. Which makes me pretty certain Will will escape blasphemy charges from you. montani semper liberi- So, your use of the word TREASON was, what, an exageration, a lie, a fib, or just kidding around?
michael_b - Monty, after re-reading your post I'm reminded of the same reaction I have when the left hurls accusations of racism.
michael_b
"one of the more disgraceful episodes in modern politics"...second to electing an unqualified Empty Suit to the Oval Office. On second thought, it's third, re-electing the dullard is first. 2ndNlong
"...On second thought, it's third, re-electing the dullard is first."
Add horribly out-of-touch to wing-nut... Hamlet- Speaking of "lord and savior", it's amazing you can still find gems like these with a quick google:
http://bushfish.org/
http://boingboing.net/2006/08/01/george-w-bush-messia.html http://www.lewrockwell.com/blog/lewrw/archives/6362.html
Nope, it wasn't really treason to question Bush, it was just blasphemy after all. For right-wingers, I can understand the confusion.
I get it. The posters that use these terms are just making juvenile noise. philly2flag- BTW, what's a left-winger?
philly2flag - One driven by emotion - not reason.
michael_b - As opposed to a right-winger who is one driven by lies and mythology - not truth and fact.
CommonSense in Philly - see what I mean???
michael_b - The implication being that right-wingers are driven by reason like, for instance, the belief that Obama was born in Kenya or Indonesia or Mecca (depending on whom you talk to) or the belief that a woman's body shuts down a rape pregnancy or that a child conceived in a rape (when the magic shut-down system doesn't work) is God's will or that giving rich people a 5 trillion dollar tax cut will shrink the deficit or the fact that the glaciers are disappearing before our eyes means climate change is a hoax or that Obama is a socialist even though he appointed Wall Street lackeys like Tim Geithner to Treasury and the stock market and corporate profits have soared in his first administration or that Obama is a Muslim-sympathizer (maybe even an Al Qaeda plant) even though he had bin Laden offed and has a tendency for good or bad to authorize a drone strike every time 12 Muslims are standing near each other in Pakistan. Is that the kind of reason you're talking about?
abendteuer
Though there are many snarky nicknames for those on (in) the Right only one moniker is needed to show the utter logic fail of the Left...liberal. 2ndNlong- by definition of the word, Jesus Christ was a liberal. as a matter of fact, the whole country was a liberal in 1936 when roosevelt won all but one state until liberals past the civil rights act then the racists became republicans.
Personally, I prefer the term "goober" to "wingnut". Although wingnut can and is used in the plural, nothing describes the trained seal audience, who mimick the talking heads on Fox "News", better than Goober Nation. wokmaster- Goober is too kind. Foxes tend to lure sheep to their unwitting demise, and sure enough, FoxNews has been known to use the "fox" and "sheep" analogy on its own holiday greeting cards.
- Wow mccain, graham, ayotte all used the exact same words. do you think they rehearsed their answers? It was the week of the UN and Rice was already scheduled to be on the program. Obama should call mccain out for being a sore loser. I'm tired of person who did something heroic 40 years ago and has never shut up about it since.
===]]] As for McCarthy and his accusations of communist influence in US foreign policy, it turns out he was right, even if you find his methods inappropriate. [[[===
Oh. Brother. He was "right" when he ruined the lives of many people with false accusations.
Ladies and gentlemen, I present you the logic of a "conservative." Talking point sleuth- can't you republicans go back under the rock you've been hiding under since Obama won the landslide election. we'll led the country. Four more years and his second term hasn't even started yet. hahahahahahahaha
