The Orchestra needs an infusion of youth and not just at the conductor level. Many of the Orchestra members are well past retirement age and they are set in thier ways. Change of anykind is not welcome and they are perfectly happy only playing to the "I don't leave my apartment at night" crowd who attend Friday afternoon concerts. The orchestra will slowly whither away without an infusion of youth which is what's happening. There also needs to be more music appreciation education in the public and private schools to cultivate the future audience. The Orchestra members should be out in the community doing just that. While there are some who are pariticipating in these types of programs, the participation level is low compared to the need in the community.
