Art Thief: How to draw a hummingbird.

Ever see a tiny hummer?

Let's get started!

1. Start with the gentle arc shown in green. This will be your guideline for the how the bird is positioned. The body and head are egg-shaped. The wing is like a leaf. Sketch a line for the center of its long beak.

2.  Connect the two ovals with lines that curve in slightly for the neck. The tail is wider at the top and tapers toward the end. Begin to give the wing some structure by adding a second line beneath the top and separate feathers on the bottom edge.
Add a back wing and finish the beak.

3. Erase the unwanted part of your guideline. Add the feet which curl back toward the tail. When you add texture and tone, remember to make your pencil strokes in the same direction as the feathers grow.
