The Daily News engages its youngest readers each summer with “The Art Thief,” in which kids can “steal” drawing tips from a professional artist.
A how-to-draw graphic is published weekly and the young artists submit their renditions for prizes. Each child receives a personal response and is invited, along with a parent or guardian, to an end-of-summer art show and ice-cream social.
“The Art Thief” not only builds a community between our paper and young readers, but its lessons are authentic. Children learn topics such as how light falls on a sphere, anatomy, perspective and much more.
