Moving day
Dick Polman, Inquirer National Political Columnist
In today's tumultuous media environment, there comes a time when free-agent scribes such as myself are wise to diversify. That time is now.
WHYY, the public media service in Philadelphia (more traditionally known as Public Broadcasting), has lured me - so, beginning Monday, this blog will move there, under a new name. You can even check it out today - at whyy.org/nationalinterest - and list it in Favorites. There's scant furniture in the room yet, but I left a note pinned to the door.
Philly.com has been a great host these past four and a half years. Cranking out a political blog, which requires provocative text five days a week, is a taxing exercise that can't be done without significant in-house support, so I especially want to thank Wendy, Jonathan, Bob, and Tony for watching my back. And while I'm certainly inviting my clamorous community of readers to link the new site every weekday, I'm obviously hoping that you'll also continue to avail yourselves of the extensive philly.com menu.
And even though I'm moving and reinventing the blog, my Sunday Inquirer print column will continue to be posted online at philly.com, and I'll surface in live chats sponsored by the Inquirer editorial board. In fact, a chat is scheduled for Monday. Such are the perks of diversification, and the expanding options for staying in touch. Let's do that.
I want to clarify my earlier comment. I hope some of the conservative commentators on this forum come to the new blog. I enjoy debating the other side on issues of policy and politics. We may rarely agree, but as NEPhilly said, it was a spirited debate and I also really enjoyed it. jmc-the reason liberals love public broadcasting is because no one makes money off of it, and people who can't afford cable have something to watch. I'm sorry if those sentiments offend your delicate conservative free-market sensibilities. Logathis
Smike, no reason to leave. Transfer the name to the new site. C'mon all of the regulars here. Looking forward to jousting with everyone at the new address. JimR
Good talking to most of you. The trolls and those who have no manners and hide behind the safety of their PC with some of the comments they make won't be missed. Just got back from two weeks at Dewey Beach and was getting caught up on what was being discussed. Not sure why DP took a shot at a dead man. There are plenty of live ones he could have said the same thing about from both parties. Both parties got us into this mess and it will take both parties to get us out of this mess or a strong third party. As always, country first, politician's lying thieves. USA#1

Good luck, Dick. And try to be more balanced at your next gig. PhillyTru- Going over to the official DNC network. Glad to see it. Taking the wackos with you? georgel
To those Far Right Cons who like to post repeatedly about what a complete imbecile or Left Wing Lunatic Dick is, you helped him secure his new job. Today's Website Game is all about the hits. WHYY probably figured it was probably a compatible audience. yobill626
Hey, if Dick goes over to WHYY, does that mean he'll be begging for money twice a year? Wonder how successful he'll be getting a few bucks out of SMike? yobill626
smike and nephilly...you guys not going over to whyy? going to leave me to fend for the right all by my lonesome? cowards!!!!! tom - wilmington, de
Polamn, The Inky is better without you. That is because you smear, distort and your highly partisan agenda has no place at a major city newspaper. You belong in the new media where smearing is condoned. CD75
DP, I'm sorry that you're leaving Philly.com, I like to get my local news here, but I'm glad you found a new home that will support you in the way you feel is necessary to continue your blog. I will continue to follow your blog, even in the friendly confines (I'm from Chicago originally so if you’re a baseball fan you know what I'm saying) of public radio. For those of you whose sentiment can best be summed up as "good riddance", it's been grand. Even though there isn't any reason for you to follow him there based on upon your sentiments, somehow I suspect I'll be seeing your comments there anyway ;-) I continue to look forward to DP's (yes, partisan) blogs and the spirited discussions they give birth(er) to. DP’s views are one part of a multi-faceted landscape but all parts are equally valuable none the less. It may be simpler and easier to let someone else tell you what to think but life ain't simple or easy. If you only read / listen / believe information disseminated from your own camp (left, right, center, extremist) you’re missing the big picture. The truth rarely, if ever, lies at or even close to the extreme edges, it’s almost always somewhere near the center of the debate which is where I like to hang my hat. In geometric terms, center is defined as “the middle point, or the point within a circle or sphere equally distant from all points of the circumference or surface, or the point within a regular polygon equally distant from the vertices”. DP’s blog is one of those points on the circumference or surface of the debate that helps to establish that center. Without taking into consideration all points of view, the center and hence the “truth” is skewed. See you at WHYY. WarrickSawyer
When Robert Gibb's criticized the Professional left, he wasnt talking about our man Dick. To get a promotion to WHYY, the big-time Professional Left" you need to be a member of the "Professional Left" that shill for democrats non-stop. By the way, no mention of professional left at PNI. I guess the editors are all still hoping for a juicy spot at Public Radio's trough. tr88- Tom- Go to the new site. I already have a post on there
