In today's tumultuous media environment, there comes a time when free-agent scribes such as myself are wise to diversify. That time is now.

WHYY, the public media service in Philadelphia (more traditionally known as Public Broadcasting), has lured me - so, beginning Monday, this blog will move there, under a new name. You can even check it out today - at whyy.org/nationalinterest - and list it in Favorites. There's scant furniture in the room yet, but I left a note pinned to the door.

Philly.com has been a great host these past four and a half years. Cranking out a political blog, which requires provocative text five days a week, is a taxing exercise that can't be done without significant in-house support, so I especially want to thank Wendy, Jonathan, Bob, and Tony for watching my back. And while I'm certainly inviting my clamorous community of readers to link the new site every weekday, I'm obviously hoping that you'll also continue to avail yourselves of the extensive philly.com menu.

And even though I'm moving and reinventing the blog, my Sunday Inquirer print column will continue to be posted online at philly.com, and I'll surface in live chats sponsored by the Inquirer editorial board. In fact, a chat is scheduled for Monday. Such are the perks of diversification, and the expanding options for staying in touch. Let's do that.

Hey, recall the day when Polman posted about Republicans wanting to take away birthright citizenship? Remember how he posted yesterday about Republicans being hypocrites? Well, get a load of this...from the Washington Times.."...Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, Nevada Democrat, once supported revising the current interpretation of the birthright citizenship clause in 1993...."TITLE X—CITIZENSHIP 4 SEC. 1001. BASIS OF CITIZENSHIP CLARIFIED. In the exercise of its powers under section of the Fourteenth Article of Amendment to the Constitution of the United States, the Congress has determined and hereby declares that any person born after the date of enactment of this title to a mother who is neither a citizen of the United States nor admitted to the United States as a lawful permanent resident, and which person is a national or citizen of another country of which either of his or her natural parents is a national or citizen, or is entitled upon application to become a national or citizen of such country, shall be considered as born subject to the jurisdiction of that foreign country and not subject to the jurisdiction of the United States within the meaning of section 1 of such Article and shall therefore not be a citizen of the United States or of any State solely by reason of physical presence within the United States at the moment of birth." Guess he had a change of heart. To all libs who say Republicans flip flopped about health insurance mandates, is this a flip flop by Harry Reid?

from one liberal site to another, only this time the blogger will be paid for by part of our tax dollars since WHYY receives funding.

Good luck to you. However, I think you are making a mistake. Many people who read your blog, like me, no longer live in the Philadelphia area, and probably won't migrate over to your new location. Additionally, new readers of Philly.com won't know of you. Thus, I think your audience will shrink. Of course, the wingnuts will rejoice and probably follow you to your new location so they can get their daily fix.

Public broadcasting is an invaluable resource to all communities. Kudos to Mr. Polman for supporting such a noble endeavor. I can only hope some of the extreme right wingers on this forum will be scared away by what they consider to be a blatantly socialist construct (publicly funded broadcasting). Thank you LBJ.

AHiredGun, you probably won't migrate? What does your place of residence have to do with whether or not you'll migrate? BTW, this is a partisan blog, not a poltical blog.

"Public broadcasting is an invaluable resource to all communities." It's obvious why liberals love it, but it's not like I can't get the same type of programming on cable. Public television is a relic from the days of 7 channels and having to get up from the couch to change the station.

tom: are you sure that's legit? I found H.J.RES.117, which was a proposed ammendment to the 1993 Immigration Stabilization Act (H.R.3320). It was actually proposing a constitutional ammendment, though. Reid was neither the author nor one of the cosponsors. It was referred to the Subcommittee on International Law, Immigration, and Refugees, which I THINK Reid was on, but it doesn't appear to even have gotten a hearing. Here's the ammendment - http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/bdquery/D?d103:116:./temp/~bdhiHt:@@@P

tom: I also found H. R. 1191, "To amend the Immigration and Nationality Act to limit citizenship at birth, merely by virtue of birth in the United States, to persons with citizen or legal resident mothers." It read completely differently, and Reid wasn't a co-sponsor. Then again, these are both House ammendments. ..... http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/bdquery/D?d103:338:./temp/~bdvELx::

I second that sentiment schnail. After all, who wants diverse opinions and debate anyway? Certainly not us liberals.

still_independent, it was S1351 and can be found at http://frwebgate.access.gpo.gov/cgi-bin/getdoc.cgi?dbname=103_cong_bills&docid=f:s1351is.txt.pdf It also states that "Mr Reid introduced the following bill...."

"Thank you LBJ." My guess is Logathis doesn't live in Philadelphia where we get to enjoy LBJ & his "Great Society" each & every day.
