The final fun at Spruce St. Harbor Park

Philadelphia’s urban beach received the go-ahead to stay open until Sept. 28, and with only two more weeks of hammock swinging and entertainment, two weekend celebrations are set to take place.

Philadelphia's urban beach received the go-ahead to stay open until Sept. 28, and with only two more weeks of hammock swinging and entertainment, two weekend celebrations are set to take place.

Starting on Friday, Sept. 19 and running through Sunday, Sept. 21, Spruce Street Harbor Park (Columbus Boulevard at Spruce Street) welcomes the change of season during a Fall Festival full of events to enjoy.

Craft beer drinkers know that when September hits, one of the most beloved brew flavors is in full swing: pumpkin. During Fall Fest, the beer selections at the Blue Anchor, the park's resident foodery, will represent a different mid-Atlantic area each day. On Friday, enjoy fall-themed foods and harvest beers in season from New Jersey and Delaware. On Saturday, local Pennsylvania beers will take over the park, followed by Maryland pours on Sunday.

Beer fanatics aren't the only ones who get to enjoy their evening at the park. Family-friendly entertainment and live performances are scheduled throughout the weekend, too. On Friday, starting at 2 p.m., enjoy the sounds of Trinadelphia, followed by an evening concert performance by Ensemble Novo, Man about a Horse, and Stella Ruze.

If you couldn't make it to Friday's musical features, Saturday and Sunday have enough artists lined up that'll surely get your fingers snappin'. Starting at noon, enjoy some struttin' tunes from Mummertime, followed by Fernando Regencio at 5 p.m. Finishing off the music on Saturday is Dan Keller at 8 p.m. Sunday's musical performances start a little later in the day as Steeplan Orchestra performs at 5 p.m., while Trinidelphia closes out the weekend beginning at 8 p.m.

If you're hungry throughout the performances and are not in the mood for harvest eats, Dadz Grilled Cheez Truck will be on site Friday, PBandU Saturday, and Seoulful Philly on Sunday.

OK, we covered music, beer, and food … but there's more. Bocce, shuffleboard, ping-pong, Jenga, Connect Four, and chess games will all be available during the weekend, as well as face-painting, jugglers, printmaking, flower workshops and drawing classes.

The closing festivities continue on Friday, Sept. 26 through Sunday, Sept. 28. Spruce Street Harbor Park ends its first great season with outdoor games, music, food, and Spruce Street Harbor Park giveaways. On Saturday at 7 p.m., a large concert (free of charge) will go down as local musicians Bardo Pond, Spacin', and Needle Points take the stage.

Keep in mind: The park is open from 11 a.m. to 1 a.m. daily, but the events for both weekends are scheduled to start at 4 p.m. Friday, 1 p.m. Saturday, 1 p.m. Sunday.
