Makeover at Jake's Sandwich Board

Jake's Sandwich Board, post renovation.

Gary Dorfman and Sean Stein's renovation of their Jake's Sandwich Board (122 S. 12th St., 215-922-0102) went even more smoothly than anticipated.

The four-year-old joint closed after business Sunday, Aug. 3, and work wrapped in the wee smalls of Saturday, Aug. 9. They're reopened

The new look - from Eimer Design, which just did the new Good Stuff Eatery and The Fat Ham - will include vintage Philly photos on the walls and requisite old-fashioned lighting.

More important, the Jake's concept has changed a bit. Dorfman and Stein's workdays will be stretched through dinnertime.

From 5 to 10 p.m. daily, Jake's will become a BYOB serving pig, brisket and turkey roasts. Basically, the roasts are slice meats served with dipping sauces, toppings and sliced bread in cast-iron skillets. Sandwiches also will be available.

On Tuesday, Aug. 12, Jake’s will offer $3 sandwiches all day long. With any sandwich purchase, those dining in will get a free Sly Fox Route 113 IPA .

They're also hammering out a second location at 40th and Sansom Streets, and expect to open this fall. (Ha. The meat specialists will be a stone's throw from vegan HipCityVeg.)
