How to handle Hop Sing Laundromat's happy hour

Before you head out for a night on the town, you may pregame - you know, drink (cheaply) at home.

Hop Sing Laundromat's new happy hour - which runs from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday through Wednesday - almost demands that you pregame.

Pregame ... food.

The dimly lit cocktail bar at 1029 Race St. in Chinatown serves nothing but potent cocktails, which are discounted to $9 at happy hour from their usual $12.

Don't want to drink on an empty stomach?

You might be able to snag a slice of fruit from the bar or filch a can of Campbell's chicken noodle soup from its spot on the shelf in the anteroom while waiting for your table, but the enormous door dude probably would have none of that.

On the plus side, HSL's well list is better than the top shelf at many establishments, including:
