If they are going to miss Leighton, an average goaltender, they were hurting to begin with. YAAAAWWWWNNNNN. Wake me up in April.

Take some kind of injury exemption on ML and go get Toskala or T Thomas.

Toskala? Are you serious? He has been garbage his entire career, oh and lets trade for Tim Thomas; a one year wonder with a 5 million dollar cap hit. Stick to posting about things you know about because hockey isn't one of them.

Two perfectly good goalies signed for less money than Leighton got, in Niemi and Turco. I don't care what anyone says about Turco, at $1.3 million, he is value. Too bad Paul had capped us out already though on a 5th defenseman making +$4 million. Oh, and Jody Shelley at over $1 million? Man if he could take those moves back now, I'm sure he would.

I have more faith in Boucher and especially Goalie Bob, than I have ever had in Leighton. Leighton never had a Jacques Plante work him over, like the raw Bernie Parent. He was/is a pure journeyman with above marginal skills. Also, if you believe this is only a "bulging disc", I have swampland in Florida for sale. You don't turn "grim" with news of a bulge. Almost 75% of the population over 30 walks around them. I'm betting on an L4-L5 or L5-S1 HERNIATION with radiculapathy. That is serious. As to Ian, he is all guts, and it would be sad to see another Primeau type career injury. Still, the Flyers are awash in gritty wingers. Go Flyers!!

Steveo - neither Turco or Niemi got less than Leighton on an annual basis. Both got about $2 million; Leighton is at 1.75 or something 'round there. The Flyers are no worse off with Boucher and Bob as a tandem, though ideally Bob would play at Adirondack for at least 1/2 the season to adjust.

The upgrades on the D-corp should allow a tandem of Brobrovsky and Boosh to to as well as Leighton would have anyway. Boosh was lights-out in the playoffs before his injury and his 3rd D-pair hung him out to dry. I don't really sense a change in quality at that position. Would have been nice for Leighton to get the time he earned, but I think Boosh earned it just as much, and the plus side of a Boosh-Brob tandem in net is getting gametime for Brobovsky at the NHL level, which he likely would not have seen had Leighton not gone down due to injury. Now that the Flyers can put a real 3rd pair on D in front of the net, I don't see how they are really any worse off than they were, plus they have the added benefit of being able to groom their future franchise goalie a bit earlier, which is good as it seems he's ready earlier than most thought he'd be anyway.

As for Lappy, sad to see, but hopefully he does the right thing for his family and recovers completely before trying to come back too soon again or just retires before damaging himself beyond repair. Hockey's not worth dying for, especially at the end of a great and long career like his. Get well soon Lappy, and if you decide not to come back, you'll always be a Flyer to us!

Leighton's injury opens the door for Bobrovksy who I've been excited about since I heard Homer Signed him over the heads of several other GM's who were looking. Lappy is a big blow. While not our lead scorer, he took over the PK duties from Richards which was a giant relief. Now with Gags gone as well our forward Defense is looking sparse.
