Coatesville's Worley out with torn ACL

Coatesville's Daquan Worley, a speedy running back and defensive back, will miss the remainder of the season with a torn right anterior cruciate ligament.

Red Raiders coach Matt Ortega confirmed Thursday evening that the 5-foot-10, 185-pound senior, who has orally committed to play at Penn State, suffered the injury in last Friday's 42-20 win over Ches-Mont League National Conference rival West Chester East.

Worley, who last season helped Coatesville go 13-3 and advance to the PIAA Class AAAA state championship game, injured his knee while returning a third-quarter punt against the Vikings.

After an MRI revealed a tear early in the week, the diagnosis was later confirmed when Worley sought a second opinion.

In eight appearance this season, Worley, who is projected to play cornerback at Penn State, carried 130 times for 1,246 yards and 11 touchdowns.

Worley is one of two cornerbacks in Penn State's 2014 recruiting class. The other is Troy Vincent, Jr., who plays for the Gilman School (Md.) and is the son of former NFL star Troy Vincent.

Worley last season earned Inquirer second-team all-Southeastern Pennsylvania honors as a multipurpose performer. Also, in 16 outings, he carried 228 times for 1,777 yards and 20 TDs.
