N-G football team to forfeit last two league games

Citing safety concerns due to a shortage of players and injuries, Neumann-Goretti’s football team has canceled its two remaining Catholic League Blue Division contests.

The Saints (0-6 overall, 0-4 division) were scheduled to play Cardinal O’Hara Saturday night and Conwell-Egan on Oct. 29.

O’Hara and Conwell-Egan received an e-mail Monday from N-G athletic director Chalie Szydlik notifying the schools of the decision.

The Saints may continue their Thanksgiving Day series with neighboring Southern and face District 3’s Columbia in a nonleague matchup.

N-G’s originally scheduled game vs. Columbia, set for Sept. 3 in Wildwood, was scrapped due to a projected tropical storm.
