O'Hara's Holmes joins Penn State family

Cardinal O'Hara senior offensive tackle Desmond Holmes committed to Penn State on Sunday afternoon, less than 24 hours after visiting the school. The 6-foot-5, 325-pounder chose the Nittany Lions over runner-up Maryland.

"He likes Penn State's coaches, the direction of the program, and felt like it was too good of an opportunity to pass up," O'Hara coach B.J. Hogan said.

Holmes, a late bloomer who doubles as a defensive lineman, also had scholarship offers from Central Florida, Colorado State, Pittsburgh, and Temple, among others.

"He's real athletic for a kid his size," Hogan said. "He's got the potential to be real good."

Holmes picked up an offer from Penn State on July 28, his birthday. He visited Maryland a few days later.
