Sa'eed Nelson said he knew when he stepped on the campus of American University.

"Oh, man, I loved the campus," Nelson said of the school in Washington, D.C. "I figured if I'm going to be spending the next four years someplace, I better love the campus."

Nelson, a senior point guard at St. Augustine Prep, on Monday committed to attend American University on a basketball scholarship.

Nelson also had offers from Holy Cross, Lafayette, Boston and Navy.

Nelson said he visited American Unviersity on the weekend of Sept. 18.

"Everything," Nelson said when asked what he liked best about American University.

Nelson also said there was a "comfort zone" in that American assistant coach Scott Greenman is a St. Augustine Prep graduate.

Nelson plans to major in finance.

The 5-foot-10 Nelson was a first-team All-South Jersey selection as a junior. A highly creative playmaker, he averaged 18.2 points and took his game to another level in post-season play, both in the CAL tournament and in the South A tournament.

"It's a relief knowing I'm going into my senior season already committed," Nelson said. "Now I want to concentrate on winning a state title."
