Football: Williamstown's Perkins commits to New Hampshire

By Phil Anastasia

Williamstown High School senior Isiah Perkins has committed to attend the University of New Hampshire on a football scholarship.

Perkins visited New Hampshire this past weekend. He will sign his National Letter of Intent Feb. 4.

"I just loved it up there," Perkins said Monday night. "I loved the school. The coaches and the players made me feel welcome."

Perkins led Williamstown to an 8-3 record and the SJ 5 semifinals as a quarterback and defensive back last season. He was recruited as a defensive back by New Hampshire.

Perkins said he was intrigued by the chance to play in the Colonial Athletic Association for one of the better programs at the NCAA Division 1 FCS level.

"The CAA is known as one of the best leagues around," Perkins said of the league that includes programs such as Villanova, Delaware, Towson and James Madison. "It's going to be a great game every week."

Perkins said he felt welcomed by the current players on the New Hampshire program during his visit.

"That was a big thing for me," Perkins said. "They made me feel like I was a part of it as a young guy coming in."

Perkins also had offers from Bucknell, Villanova, Marist and Sacred Heart. He said he plans to major in business/finance.

"It's definitely a relief," Perkins said. "It was getting stressful, with coaches calling my parents. I'm glad to have it settled."
