Training camp confidential: Cherry Hill West

Coach: Brian Wright

Last year: 5-5, made playoffs for first time in history of the program, losing to Timber Creek in first round of SJ 4 tourney

Player to watch: Senior Tyrone Williams (pictured). The 5-10, 185-pound Williams is a three-year starter and four-year varsity player. He's a hard runner who also is a heavy hitting defensive player. Wright calls Williams his "go-to" guy as a team leader. Williams and other senior leaders are determined to build on momentum created by the program's first playoff berth, which generated a lot of excitement in the school community.

Outlook: CH West has take steady steps in two seasons under Wright, a former offensive lineman at Rowan and Gloucester Catholic. The Lions were 4-6 in Wright's first season and 5-5 last season. They face a daunting schedule but should be competitive again this season, with senior QB Joey Argentina back for what really is his third season as former star Rodney Williams missed so much time in 2012 and 2013. The Lions have a top lineman in senior C/LB Shawn St. John (5-9, 210) and a standout two-way player in senior WR/DB Chris Pascall (6-1, 180), who has a scholarship offer from Stony Brook. Other returning veterans such as linemen Jared Pope, Don Graves and Ryan Wimmer, WR/DB Quinton Jenkins and RB Josh Machtinger. The strength of the program could be the sophomore class which features WR/DB Harrison Hand and DE Sameer Park.

The buzz: CH West's competitiveness over the last two seasons and playoff berth in 2013 created a lot of excitement in the hallways. "Friday night in the stadium is where a lot of the kids in the building wanted to be," Wright said.

Quote: "This team is like a brotherhood. We have great chemistry," Williams said.
