Football: Hawks running back commits to Cavaliers

St. Joseph's Prep senior running back Olamide Zaccheaus committed Wednesday evening to play at Virginia.

Joined by Hawks coach Gabe Infante, the 5-foot-9, 180-pound speedster took an unofficial visit to Charlottesville last weekend.

"Virginia is a great opportunity for him," Infante said. "They did a great job of selling the academics. The opportunity to play right away spoke loudly to him."

Zaccheaus, a key contributor since his sophomore season, also had scholarship offers from Cincinnati, Miami, and Temple, among others.

A first-team all-Catholic League Class AAAA selection, he also drew interest from Penn State, Stanford, and Wake Forest.

The Prep has another top-flight prospect in senior cornerback John Reid. The top contenders for his services include Miami, Michigan, Michigan State, Notre Dame, Penn State, and Temple.

"He wants to take his unofficial visits," Infante said. "He wants to see what it's like when school is in session."
