Football: O'Hara's Field pledges to Rutgers

Cardinal O'Hara's Ted Field, a rising junior offensive lineman, committed Friday to play at Rutgers.

"I've always liked the family atmosphere at Rutgers," he said. "And the ability to play for a Big Ten championship is a great thing."

The 6-foot-5, 325-pound tackle, who played for Garnet Valley last season, took several unofficial visits to Rutgers in recent months.

"Coach [Kyle] Flood is one of the best," Field said. "Even before committing to the school, he and the other coaches make you feel like you're part of a family."

Field, a 16-year-old from Glen Mills, also had scholarship offers from Massachusetts and Temple.

"More offers might have been coming," he said, "but I knew it wasn't going to get better than Rutgers. That's the place for me. That's my home."

Field said he also has received varying degrees of interest from Central Florida, Maryland, Pittsburgh, and Virginia Tech, among others.

Rutgers has also received oral commitments from Pennsbury senior running back Charles Snorweah and Penncrest senior offensive lineman Jonah Jackson.
