Baseball: Diamond Classic brackets set

Old rivals Gloucester Catholic and Audubon will met in a first-round game of the 41st annual Joe Hartmann Diamond Classic baseball tournament.

The Rams and Green Wave will meet at 1 p.m. Saturday at Maple Shade as the 16-team field for the tournament was announced Sunday night.

Ten teams made the field as conference representatives, while six teams were added via at-large berths.

The six at-large teams were selected by a committee of sports writers who cover South Jersey baseball.

Gloucester Catholic (12-4) was chosen was the No. 1 at-large team followed by Hammonton (9-3), Moorestown (11-4), Egg Harbor Township (11-6), Williamstown (8-6) and Cinnaminson (11-4).

Other first-round games of note include St. Augustine (11-4) vs. Clearview (10-2), Northern Burlington (13-2) vs. Haddonfield (12-3) and Moorestown vs. Washington Township (13-3).

There will be eight first-round games at four sites on Saturday, May 10.

The quarterfinals will be at Deptford and Washington Township on Saturday, May 17.

The semifinals are at Deptford and Washington Township at 1 on Sunday, May 18, with the title game set for 5 o'clock that night at Eastern.

Washington Township is the defending champion.
