Basketball: Camden High to host two showcases in 2015

By Phil Anastasia

Camden High School will host two showcase basketball events next season, according to Panthers coach John Valore.

The first "The High Showcase" will be held in Clarence Turner Gymnasium Feb. 21 and will feature six games, including matchups between projected top teams such as Camden Catholic vs. Haddonfield and Medford Tech vs. Cherry Hill West.

Here's the full schedule for that event:

Paulsboro vs. Paul VI, 11

Medford Tech vs. Cherry Hill West, 12:30

Pemberton vs. Bishop Eustace, 2

Camden Catholic vs. Haddonfield, 3:30

Woodrow Wilson vs. Camden, 5

Delsea vs. Rancocas Valley, 6:30

The loaded field includes a Paulsboro team that will feature juniors Theo Holloway and Saleem Little; a Bishop Eustace team led by juniors Brandon Cazan and Connor McLaughlin; a Delsea team with junior Keith Braxton and sophomore Kaleb Morton and junior Kwame Morton and a host Camden team that returns four starters from the Group 2 state finalists, including sophomore Brad Hawkins and Jamal Holloway.

Camden Catholic should be one of the strongest squads in SJ with returning starters in juniors Brendan Crawford and Courtney Cubbage as well as 6-8 junior Demola Onifade, who missed most of this season with a shoulder injury.

Haddonfield projects as a possible preseason No. 1 team next season with returning starters such as juniors Nick and Rob DePersia and Jake Robinson along with 6-5 junior Tyler Klaus and 6-9 junior Luke Leverick.

Medford Tech should be led by junior Dennis Tunstall and three returning starters while Cherry Hill West features junior Can Oztamur and three other returning starters.

In addition, Camden will host a holiday-week showcase on Dec. 27-29-30.

The event will feature Camden, Pennsauken, Cherry Hill West and Pleasantville. Each team will play three games, facing each of the other squads.
