Boys' Hoops: Five area players tabbed for Mary Kline Classic

Five area players were selected to compete in the fourth annual Mary Kline Classic on May 31 at West Orange High in West Orange, N.J. The event raises money for cancer research.

Neumann-Goretti's Ja'Quan Newton (a Miami commit), Roman Catholic's Shep Garner (Penn State), Great Valley's Mikal Bridges (Villanova), and Westtown's Jared Nickens (Maryland) will play for Team Perseverance in the senior game.

Archbishop Carroll's Derrick Jones, a 6-foot-6 junior forward, was picked to play for Team Bravery in the underclassmen contest.

Last year's event, which raised $27,000 for cancer research, included Rondae Jefferson, now at Arizona, and Rysheed Jordan (St. John's).

Tickets for the Mary Kline Classic will be on sale at West Orange High the day of the event for a $10 donation to charity.
