Football: Brady the new head coach at Malvern Prep

Malvern Prep has tabbed Aaron Brady, who spent the last four seasons at Gonzaga College High in Washington, D.C., as its new head football coach.

Brady, 38, was a quarterback and safety at South Western High in Hanover, York County. A first-team all-state selection on defense, he went on to play linebacker at Rutgers.

"A big part of this was deciding to move closer to where I'm originally from," he said. "This was an opportunity I couldn't pass up."

Brady replaces Kevin Pellegrini, who stepped down after posting a 37-17 overall mark in five seasons with the Friars. His father, Gamp Pellegrini, went 219-86-9 and won 20 Inter-Ac League titles in 31 years at the school.

Before Gonzaga, Brady spent time as an assistant at Clarion, Duke, and Georgetown. He has also been involved in the USA Football program, serving last year as head coach of the under-19 national squad.

Brady will be moving to the area with his fiancee, Katie Grant, a Lehighton native who was a three-time all-American in field hockey at Duke. She was an assistant coach at Columbia.

Brady, a Big 33 Classic participant in 1995, compiled a 29-16 record at Gonzaga. He guided the Eagles to four Washington Catholic Athletic Conference playoff appearances.

Last year, Gonzaga went 6-5 and advanced to the WCAC semifinals before losing to DeMatha, 17-10.

In addition to coaching football at Malvern Prep, Brady will assist in the school's development efforts.
