Football: Gionta tabbed as boss at Sun Valley

Ray Gionta, who spent the last 11 seasons in charge at Marple Newtown, has been tabbed as the new head football coach at Sun Valley.

"Its tough to leave, but I'm excited about the challenge and the opportunity to build something at Sun Valley," Gionta, 60, said Wednesday night.

Gionta, who compiled a 65-55 record (.542 winning percentage) with the Tigers, replaces Jim Grugan at Sun Valley.

Gionta said he plans to continue as a health and physical education teacher at Marple Newtown.
