Basketball: Rancocas Valley beats Sanford (Del.)

By Phil Anastasia

Nick Davidson scored 25 with eight rebounds to lead Rancocas Valley to a 59-54 win over Sanford (Del.) Prep at the Battle by the Bay in Atlantic City on Friday night.

Davidson, a 6-foot-6 senior center, also was 6-for-6 from the foul line in the final 1:24 for Rancocas Valley (12-3).

"I hit a wall the last couple of games but I felt good tonight," Davidson said. "It's a good win for us, right before the (playoff) cutoff. Hopefully, it will help us get a good seed (in the SJ 4 tournament)."

Said RV coach Jay Flanagan: "Nick picked a good game to play well. We needed him tonight and he really came through."

Junior Niall Carpenter added 14 and junior Jalen Freeman scored 10 for RV.

The Red Devils played without sophomore guard Adam Perry, who was out with an illness.

RV built a 44-37 lead after three quarters but Sanford scored the first nine points of the fourth quarter to take the lead.

The teams went back and forth until Freeman's three-pointer gave RV a 51-49 lead with 2:03 on the clock. The Red Devils sealed the win with solid defense and good free-throwing shooting, going 8-for-8 from the line in the final 1:24.
