Football: Camden's Stevens commits to Maine
By Phil Anastasia
Camden senior Andrew Stevens has committed to Maine on a football scholarship.
Stevens said he made his decision Sunday morning after returning home from a weekend visit to Maine.
"I liked the environment," Stevens said. "They treat you great. I'm excited to learn more about football and continue to improve."
The 6-3, 275-pound Stevens was recruited as a defensive lineman.
"That's what I love, playing defense," Stevens said.
Stevens led Camden to a 10-1 record and the WJFL Royal Division title last season.
He also is a standout wrestler with a 15-0 record at 285 pounds.
Stevens said he was undecided on his major.
Maine is a member of the Colonial Athletic Association with Villanova, Delaware, Towson and William and Mary, among other programs.
Maine won the CAA last season with a 7-1 record and was 10-3 overall.
"It's great football," Stevens said.
