Basketball: MLK Day Showcase at Paulsboro

By Phil Anastasia

An interesting and unusual matchup between Schalick and Wildwood Catholic is one of five potentially good boys' basketball games set for the annual Claude Kennard MLK Classic at Paulsboro on Monday.

Schalick is 7-0 entering tonight's game with Delsea. Wildwood Catholic is 6-3 and all three losses have been to good teams -- Atlantic City, La Salle of Philadelphia and Phelps of Malvern, Pa.

Schalick features Massachusetts-bound senior Rashaan Holloway as well as senior guard Melvin Allen. WC is led by senior guard Jordan Robertson and senior forward Eddie McWade.

The showcase starts at noon with what should be a lightning-paced clash between Burlington City (6-3), which has picked up its game in recent days with the addition of senior Jelani Glaze, and Medford Tech (4-4), which has one of South Jersey's emerging junior big men in Dennis Tunstall.

Bishop Eustace (6-3) and Gloucester Catholic (4-5) are old rivals and likely to play a tight, defensive battle, while Delsea (7-2) vs. Penns Grove (5-2) features two of South Jersey's hottest teams.

The nightcap has host Paulsboro (8-1) vs. Clearview (7-1).

Here's the full schedule:

Burlington City vs Med Tech, noon

Bishop Eustace vs Gloucester Catholic, 1:30

Schalick vs Wildwood Catholic, 3:15

Delsea vs Penns Grove, 5

Clearview vs Paulsboro, 6:30
