Hoops: No PIAA ruling on MC&S guard Barnes

A PIAA board of appeal Tuesday remanded back to District 12 the district's Dec. 4 ruling that former Strawberry Mansion guard Donovan Barnes was ineligible to participate for Math, Civics & Sciences in basketball this season.

"They want the district to hear the case again," said MC&S athletic director Lonnie Diggs, who was in Mechanicsburg with Barnes and his family. "I think they did that because a few new things were presented."

Diggs said the hearing lasted approximately two hours, with Barnes having legal representation. Schools officials are unsure about when District 12 will schedule a new hearing.

"I'm going to call [District 12 chairman] Robert Coleman (Wednesday)," Diggs said. "Hopefully, it will happen in the near future."

Barnes is a 5-foot-10, 160-pound junior.
