So much for Pennsbury, with 14 underclassmen in the starting rotation, being a year away from achieving major success on the gridiron.

Friday night, in a stellar showing on both sides of the ball, the host Falcons blasted previously undefeated Neshaminy, 31-3, before an overflow crowd to claim their second consecutive Suburban One League National Conference championship.

"I didn't like hearing talk of us not being a contender this season," Pennsbury senior offensive lineman Mycah Mollohan said. "This is my final year. I want us to be great now."

With a strong surge up front, the Falcons totaled 271 rushing yards on 38 attempts. On defense, they forced two early turnovers, including sophomore Rob Daly's pick-six, and held the mistake-prone Redskins to 195 total yards.

"I think people underestimated us a bit coming into this one," Mollohan said. "That was fine with us. It made us fight that much harder."

Winning its ninth consecutive game, Pennsbury, which was ranked No. 4 in Southeastern Pennsylvania by The Inquirer, improved to 9-1 overall and 7-0 in the National Conference.

"I think we shocked a lot of people, but I don't think we shocked ourselves," junior running back Charles Snorweah said of the convincing triumph. "We knew we could do it."

The Falcons went undefeated in league play for the second straight year, a feat last accomplished, according to head coach Galen Snyder, in the mid-1980s.

"We knew they were very good, and they took advantage of the opportunities we gave them," Neshaminy boss Mark Schmidt said. "Let's give them credit."

Snorweah carried 12 times for 81 yards. His 17-yard, right-side burst produced a 14-3 advantage late in the second quarter. Josh Leon added a 25-yard field goal just before intermission.

Pennsbury, which secured one of the top seeds in the 16-team District 1 Class AAAA playoffs, opened the second half with an 11-play, 66-yard series that was capped by Breon Clark's 1-yard TD sneak.

"That drive really hurt us," Schmidt said. "That's them playing well, and us not doing the things we're supposed to be doing. It just got away from us."

Mollohan was joined on the line by fellow guard John Leventry, center Mason Houriet, tackles Austin O'Neill and Sam Raywood, and tight end Eliot Muka. The other running backs were Ronquay Smith and Raheem Thompson.

For No. 2-ranked Neshaminy, which slipped to 9-1 and 6-1, junior tailback D'Andre Pollard carried 19 times for 128 yards.

The Falcons' rotating defensive line included Bert Robinson, Maada Jajua, Jack Kenney, Nick Paragano, Cody Johnson, Chris Jolley, and Jarvis Mays. Linebackers Daulton Hose and Victor Delgado posted sacks.

Rounding out the unit were Daly, a strong safety, linebacker Jordan O'Neill, cornerbacks Snorweah and Anthony Pitt, and free safety Brendan Campbell.

Smith's 27-yard dash capped the scoring with 8 minutes, 57 seconds to play.

Clark completed 3 of 3 tosses for 38 yards; the Redskins' Tyler Wombough was 3-of-12 passing for 35 yards.
