Basketball Ogoemesim leaves Rancocas Valley

By Phil Anastasia

In another move that could impact the balance of power in South Jersey basketball, former Rancocas Valley junior guard Ned Ogoemesim has transferred to Life Center Academy.

The 6-foot-1 Ogoemesim was a third-team All-South Jersey selection as a sophomore.

He averaged a team-high 15.4 points as Rancocas Valley went 25-3, winning 20 games in a row before losing in the second round of the Central Jersey Group 4 tournament.

Rancocas Valley coach Jay Flanagan confirmed that Ogoemesim has enrolled in Life Center Academy, which is located in Burlington Township, but declined further comment.

Rancocas Valley also will be missing junior guard Shaun Bradley, a top defender, as he suffered a knee injury in an Oct. 5 football game against Eastern.

With Ogoemesim and Bradley, RV had projected as one of the Top 3 teams in South Jersey.

At Life Center, a non-NJSIAA school, Ogoemesim will join with junior guards Malik Ellison and Traci Carter on a team that will be coached by Malik's father, Pervis Ellison, a former NBA player.

Malik Ellison is regarded as one of the state's top juniors.

Carter, a transfer from Roman Catholic in Philadelphia, has offers from St. Joseph and La Salle. He is the cousin of Cleveland Cavaliers guard Dion Waiters, a former Life Center player.

Ogoemesim's departure from RV follows the departure of two top players from Medford Tech in the summer.

Medford Tech junior Eli Cain transferred to St. Benedict's and sophomore Myles Powell transferred to Trenton Catholic.

Cain and Powell were key players last season for a Medford Tech team that won the South Jersey Group 2 title.
