Football: Washington Twp. to host Pink Game

By Phil Anastasia

The Washington Township High School football team and booster club will be holding its second annual "Pink Game" to benefit the "Helping Others with Breast Cancer" organization on Sept. 27 at 7 p.m.

The Minutemen will be wearing pink shirts under their jerseys, pink socks, pink shoe laces and a pink breast cancer awareness decal on their helmets for the game that night against WJFL American Division rival Lenape.

The coaches will be wearing pink shirts, as well as the 5th Quarter Club  parents, cheerleaders, managers, trainers and band members.

The team will sell pink footballs for $1. The 5th
Quarter Club will be selling pink T-shirts, cow bells, rally towels, cotton candy and popcorn to raise funds for the cause.

The football team  became involved with "Helping Others with Breast Cancer" last year when the players
started assisting Orchard Valley Middle School student Averianna Wheeler.

The team helped Averianna collect donations at her lemonade stands at Bottino's ShopRite in Washington Township again this year.

Through the sales  of T-shirts, rally towels, team pink packs (shoe laces, socks, tape, helmet emblem, T-shirt) and other donations, the team and boosters were able to present "Helping Others with Breast Cancer" with a $4,000 check last season.
