Fast fact: Moorestown scored 130 points in its final three games last season, including a 52-47 loss to Kingsway in the first round of the S.J. 4 tournament

Opener: Home vs. Seneca, Sept. 12

Player to watch: Senior linebacker Shayne Lawless (pictured). The 6-2, 195-pound Lawless led the Quakers with 80 tackles last season. He's the leader of a veteran defense that is looking to change the perception of the Quakers as a finesse team that relies on sophisticated offense.

Outlook: Under new coach Beau Sherry, who was an assistant for seven years under former coach Russ Horton (now an assistant at Paul VI), Moorestown is a darkhorse contender in the WJFL Constitution Division as well as S.J. Group 4. The Quakers could be dangerous on offense with an explosive quarterback in junior Tyreek Robinson, who passed for 1,069 yards and 12 TDs and ran for 395 yards and 5 TDs as a sophomore. Robinson is a big-play athlete who will be difficult for defenses to contain. Senior Dallas Clark is an experienced receiver and junior Anthony Williamson and senior Kevin Ewers likely will be the top ball-carriers. Senior Trevor Allen and junior Tyreek Smith are returning starters on the OL. But the strength of the team should be the defense, which returns several starters led by inside LB Shayne Lawless as well as Smith at DT and Robinson (three INTs last season) at safety. Allen will return at DT/DE and senior Yusef Green could make an impact at DE. Soph DT Niles Turner is the team's strongest player.

Schedule: Moorestown will play nine consecutive weeks, with no bye and no Thanksgiving Day game. After the opener against rebuilding Seneca, the Quakers are looking at a tough stretch that includes a Sept. 20 game at Delsea, a Sept. 27 home game with Camden Catholic and an Oct. 11 game at Timber Creek. Camden visits Moorestown on Oct. 18 and the Quakers' final regular-season game is No. 8 vs. Woodrow Wilson.

Quote: "We're looking to be a lot more physical this year, especially on defense," Lawless said.
