Countdown to Kickoff: Timber Creek training camp

Timber Creek

Last year: 10-2, won S.J. 4 title

Coach: Rob Hinson (56-30 overall, 51-25 in seven seasons at Timber Creek)

Two in a row: The Chargers are 22-2 over the previous two seasons, with a S.J. 3 title in 2011 and S.J. 4 title in 2012

Opener: Sept. 13 at Camden Catholic, 7 p.m.

Player to watch: Sr. QB Dan Williams (pictured) is coming off a break-out game in the sectional final. He threw for 5 TDs in a 57-27 in the S.J. 4 title game. He is the son of long-time Eagles assistant coach Ted Williams.

Outlook: The Chargers loom as heavy favorites in the WJFL Constitution Division and in S.J. 4. They have graduated a lot of talent the last two years -- sending Quanzell Lambert and Myles Nash to Rutgers, Zaire Williams to Temple, and DaJaun Drennon and Greg Webb to North Carolina, among many other athletes playing college football -- but there's no shortage of big-play athletes on the roster.

TC will be a bit inexperienced in spots but should have good senior leadership from the likes of Williams, DB Justice Davila (pictured, an Old Dominion recruit), WR Adonis Jennings (pictured, Rutgers) and OT/DT Lamont Bradford (who could be close to committing to UConn). Junior DB/RB Kareem Ali is one of the state's most highly recruited players in the class of 2015, with offers from Penn State, Rutgers and several other programs. Sophomore WR Cameron Chambers, a transfer from St. Joes Prep, already has offers from Rutgers, Purdue and Temple. He's one of the state's most highly touted players in the class of 2016. With Chambers and Jennings, both of whom are 6-3, on the outside, TC will be a difficult team for secondaries to contain, especially with the savvy and strong-armed Williams pulling the trigger.

Ali, who has run 4.4 40s on the camp circuit, will be tough to contain as a ball-carrier. TC also should be stout up front with Bradford, OG Brandon Short and OT/DT Solomon Potter leading the way.

Schedule: TC looks like a heavy favorite in the WJFL Constitution, although Camden Catholic will be a challenge in the opener. CC beat TC in the opener last season. TC also has Group 5 powers Williamstown and Eastern on the schedule and should be tested in the Group 4 playoffs by the likes of Hammonton, Shawnee and Kingsway.

Quote: "Coach (Hinson) always tells us we can't be the class to let the torch go. We have to carry it forward," Williams said.
