Football: Coatesville's Burke commits to Maryland

Coatesville's Tyler Burke, a 6-foot-4, 235-pound tight end and middle linebacker, committed Tuesday afternoon to play for Maryland.

"I always kept my options open, but I just kind of knew that's where I wanted to be," he said. "This was my fourth time visiting the school. Everything felt right."

Burke, who last season helped the Red Raiders advance to the PIAA Class AAAA state championship game, chose the Terrapins over runner-up Rutgers, Pittsburgh, Syracuse, and Temple, among others.

"I think Maryland sees me as a linebacker," the 17-year-old said. "But you never know what's going to happen. I just want to get on the field and contribute."

Burke became the second member of Coatsville's Class of 2014 to committ to a Division I-A program. In the spring, Daquan Worley, a speedy running back and defensive back, tabbed Penn State as his future home.
