Football: Shurmur set to play for La Salle

Kyle Shurmur, son of Eagles offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur, is registered at La Salle High and prepping to play quarterback for the Explorers in the fall.

Shurmur, a 6-foot-4, 210-pound junior, recently moved to the area with his family. Pat Shurmur was head coach of the Cleveland Browns before joining Chip Kelly's staff.

As a backup last season for powerhouse St. Edward (Ohio), Shurmur played well in a backup role. He completed 7 of 10 passes for 119 yards and a touchdown in a 51-0 drubbing of Washington's Woodson.

It is expected that Shurmur, a Division I-A prospect, will take over at QB for Drew Gordon's squad, with speedy junior Jimmy Herron remaining as a multipurpose performer/wildcat QB.

Shurmur is likely to also join La Salle's swimming team. He excels in the 100-yard backstroke and 100 freestyle.

Before choosing La Salle, he also reportedly visited Catholic League Class AAAA rival St. Joseph's Prep and Penn Charter.
