Football: West's Amara commits to Pitt

West Catholic's Patrick Amara, a 6-foot-2, 185-pound wide receiver and free safety, has orally committed to play for Pittsburgh.

The senior, who was at Pitt last weekend for a one-day camp, also had scholarship offers from Bowling Green, Central Florida, Fordham, Holy Cross, Lafayette, and Massachusetts.

"I felt real comfortable with everybody at the school, especially the coaches," Amara said. "They took me under their wing."

His former Burrs teammate, offensive lineman Jaryd Jones-Smith, is an incoming freshman at Pitt. "He recommended it," Amara said. "He put in a good word for the school."

Amara, of Upper Darby, is projected to be a hybrid safety/outside linebacker for the Panthers. "He likes that there's an opportunity to go up there and play right away," West Catholic coach Brian Fluck said.

Said Amara: "I know not too many people can match my work ethic. When I get there, I really want to prove myself."

The Burrs also have a Division I prospect in tailback Greg White. The 5-9, 185-pound senior has offers from Temple, Ohio, Buffalo, Massachusetts, and Old Dominion.
