Baseball: Pennsville beats Pitman

By Phil Anastasia

Luke Westfield heard his teammates whispering behind his back.

"I overheard them, 'Don't tell him, don't tell him,'" Westfield said. "I knew something was up."

Westfield, a Pennsville senior, wasn't just working on a no-hitter. He had a perfect game.

He retired the first 17 batters before walking the No. 9 hitter on a 3-2 pitch with two outs in the sixth.

He had a no-hitter with two outs in the seventh, but Pitman's Matt Ennis stroked a clean single to center.

Westfield settled for a three-hitter as Pennsvile seized sole possession of first place in th Tri-County Classic Division with a 5-2 win over Pitman on Monday.
