Basketball: Lundy to sign with Rider

By Phil Anastasia

Paulsboro senior Xavier Lundy, The Inquirer's two-time South Jersey Player of the Year, will attend Rider University on a basketball scholarship.

Paulsboro coach Sean Collins said Wednesday that Lundy will sign with Rider when he returns from his senior class trip.

Lundy was unavailable for comment on Wednesday.

Lundy scored 2,135 career points as a four-year starter at Paulsboro.

He led the Red Raiders to a 57-4 record in his junior and senior seasons, including a 57-1 record against South Jersey opponents and a pair of South Jersey Group 1 titles.

Paulsboro's only loss to a SJ opponent in Lundy's final two seasons was to two-time Group 4 state champion Atlantic City.

Lundy averaged 18.3 points and 10.5 rebounds last season. His scoring average was down about four points from his junior year as he worked to get his teammates more involved in the offense.

"I didn't care about scoring," Lundy said after the season. "All I cared about was winning."

Rider is coached by former Burlington Twp. and St. Joseph's player Kevin Baggett. The Broncs were 19-15 last season, including a 12-6 mark in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference.

Lundy also had scholarship offers from James Madison and Long Island University.
