Boys' Hoops: Romanczuk not going anywhere

Paul Romanczuk said that he is staying put as head boys' basketball coach at Archbishop Carroll.

When brother-in-law Chris Collins recently took the head-coaching job at Northwestern, talk surfaced of Romanczuk's possible interest in being an assistant under Collins, should such a position be offered to him.

"I don't know how any of that got started," Romanczuk said Thursday, taking a break from what must be a stressful period as a certified public account. "I never said that I was going to run off and coach with Chris Collins."

Romanczuk is married to the former Kelly Collins, sister of Chris Collins and daughter of 76ers head coach Doug Collins. The couple has three young children.

"Coaching in the Catholic League is a special thing," Romanczuk continued. "I get the best of both worlds. I have a job that pays the bills and a job that I get to have a lot of fun doing."

Would Romanczuk ever consider a move to the college coaching ranks?

"I never say never, but it's not something I'm itching to do," he said.

In the recently completed season, Romanczuk guided Carroll to a 23-7 record and the PIAA Class AAA state final. The Patriots earned state gold in 2009.
