Football: Will Shurmur find way to La Salle?

Kyle Shurmur, a sophomore quarterback at St. Edward (Ohio) and the son of new Eagles offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur, was in town a few weeks ago to look at prospective high schools.

One of his visits was to La Salle, where he shadowed a student. "He said he liked the school, but he was very non-committal about what he's going to do," Explorers coach Drew Gordon said.

As a backup last season for powerhouse St. Edward, the 6-foot-3, 215-pound Shurmur played well in mop-up duty. He completed 7 of 10 passes for 119 yards and a touchdown in a 51-0 drubbing of Washington's Woodson.

Should Shurmur opt to attend La Salle, the Explorers' vaunted swimming team would also benefit. He excels in the 100-yard backstroke (a sectional champion last season, in 52.94 seconds) and 100 freestyle.

Shurmur was also reportedly interested in St. Joseph's Prep and Penn Charter.
