Prep's Steve Vasturia is Gatorade Player of the Year for PA

St. Joseph's Prep senior guard Steve Vasturia has been named Gatorade boys' basketball player of the year for Pennsylvania.

In leading the Hawks to a 24-6 record and the PIAA Class AAAA state semifinals, the 6-foot-5, 190-pounder averaged 20.5 points, 7.1 rebounds, 2.4 assists, and 2.1 steals per game.

"I certainly believe it's well deserved, with all that he's accomplished here," Prep coach Speedy Morris said.

Vasturia, bound for Notre Dame, finished his career at the Prep with 1,764 points. He shot 378 for 424 (89.2 percent) from the free-throw line.

"He's a team leader, a great student, and a terrific kid," Morris added. "He's very humble."
