Basketball: All-South Jersey teams

Here's The Inquirer's All-South Jersey teams for boys' basketball:

The first team consists of Player of the Year Xavier Lundy, a Paulsboro senior, along with Camden Catholic senior Kyle Green, Atlantic City senior Dayshawn Reynolds, Paul VI junior Jay Howard and Camden junior Tavaris Headen.

ALL SOUTH JERSEY

FIRST TEAM

Xavier Lundy, Paulsboro

The 6-5 senior averaged 18.6 points and led Paulsboro to a 27-3 record and the South Jersey Group 1 title.

Lundy was a top rebounder and shot-blocker and a defensive presenc at the top of Paulsboro's 1-3-1 zone trap. He scored in double figures in 29 of the Red Raiders' 30 games.

Lundy scored a season-high 32 in two of the team's first three games but was less focused on scoring than on rebounding, defense and distributing the basketball over the course of the season.

Lundy scored 22 with 11 rebounds in a 79-71 victory over Eastern Jan. 26 in a clash of teams ranked in the Top 7 in South Jersey. He finished his career with 2,121 points. He has not committed to a college.

Kyle Green, Camden Catholic

The 6-5 senior was known for his tenacity as well as his talent. He finished his career as Camaden Catholic's all-time leading scorer with 1,734 points.

This season, Green averaged 18.3 points and led the Irish to a 20-8 record. He was the team's top rebounder as well as an outstanding passer. He scored 21 in his final game, a 52-49 loss to Paul VI in the second round of the Non-Public South A tournament.

Green scored 36 against Pleasantville on Jan. 19 and 30 against Camden on Feb. 14. He has signed to attend Temple on a basketball scholarship.

Tavaris Headen, Camden

The 5-9 junior led Camden to its 43rd sectional title and its 22d appearance in the state finals.

A clever lefty, Headen averaged 18.5 points for the season. He averaged 22.1 points in six games in the Group 3 state tournament.

Between Feb. 10 and Feb. 18, Headen led Camden to victories over Top 10 teams St. Augustine, Camden Catholic and Eastern. He scored 25, 22 and 19 points, respectively, in those three victories.

Headen took his game to another level in the state tournament. He scored 23 in the South Jersey Group 3 finals against Timber Creek and 26 in the state semifinals against Lawrence.

Jay Howard, Paul VI

The 6-3 junior sparked Paul VI to a 26-4 record and a berth in the Non-Public South A final.

Howard scored 27 in the Eagles' last game, a 76-69 loss to St. Joseph of Metuchen in the sectional title game. He averaged 18.4 points and seven rebounds during the season.

An accomplished finisher on the Eagles' fast break, Howard scored in double figures in 28 of 30 games. He scored 31 in a 73-71 win over West Windsor South on Jan. 30 and scored 20 in a 52-49 victory over rival Camden Catholic in the Non-Public South A quarterfinals on Feb. 28.

Dayshawn Reynolds, Atlantic City

The 6-1 senior averaged 10.1 points and was a defensive standout and emotional leader for the Group 4 state champions, the No. 1 team in the Top 10 rankings.

A fearless left-hander, he made perhaps the Vikings' biggest shot of the season, a 25-footer that tied the score at 48-48 with 0:37 remaining in the state title game against Linden.

He scored a season-high 23 in the Cape Atlantic League title game against Middle Twp. He generated 14 points, seven rebounds and five steals in a double-overtime victory over Point Plesant Beach in the Tournament of Champions.

Reynolds has committed to attend Temple on a football scholarship.
