Villanova Opener Aug 30 at Boston College

The Wildcats first home game is a Sept. 21 playoff rematch with Stony Brook

Villanova, the defending Colonial Athletic Association football champion, has released its 2013 schedule that opens at Boston College and includes a rematch in its first home game with its playoff opponent Stony Brook.

According to a school official, the times of the game won't be known until May or June.

Villanova, which opened against Football Bowl Subdivision opponent Temple each of the last four seasons, also begins with an FBS opponent in the Aug. 30 opener at Boston College. It will be the 45th meeting between the two schools but first since 1980.

The Wildcats first home game is Sept. 21 against Stony Brook, which beat Villanova 20-10 in this past season's opening round Football Championship Subdivision playoff game.

Stony Brook is becoming a member of the Colonial Athletic Association.

In addition to Boston College, the other two non-conference games are at Fordham and at home against Penn.

The schedule ends with the annual rivalry with Delaware, Nov. 23 at Villanova Stadium.

Villanova went 8-4 last season and immediately after the playoff loss to Stony Brook, coach Andy Talley said the goal was to compete for a national championship in 2013.

With an experienced team returning, the Wildcats will likely be ranked highly in preseason FCS polls.
