Football: Hatboro-Horsham still looking for coach

It looked as if Bob Rosenberger was set to officially become Hatboro-Horsham's new head football coach. The school district was slated to vote three days ago on his appointment.

But just before Tuesday's board meeting, Rosenberger, who had  been Pennridge's defensive coordinator, took his name out of consideration for the job.

"The Hatters football program continues to move forward in its preparation for a successful and productive 2013 season," said a press release issued by the school district.

Said Hatboro-Horsham principal Dennis Williams in the statement: "When we find a coach who is ultimately committed to the district, and is excited about mentoring student-athletes and helping them unlock their hidden potential, we will have the true recipe for success."

Rosenberger, 40, reconsidered his decision to coach at Hatboro-Horsham to pursue the head-coaching vacancy at William Tennent, his alma mater. Biz Keeney's football coaching contract at Tennent was not renewed.

Rosenberger graduated from Tennent in 1991. On offense, he played quarterback, tight end, slot back, and wide receiver. On defense, he lined up end, linebacker, and cornerback. His senior season was hampered by a shoulder injury.

Working with boss Randy Cuthbert at Pennridge last season, Rosenberger helped the Rams go 12-2, claim the Suburban One League Continental Conference title with a 7-0 mark, and advance to the PIAA District 1 Class AAAA semifinals before losing to Spring-Ford, 35-24.

Rosenberger, who played briefly at South Carolina, is scheduled to interview for the Tennent job on Monday. He is a seventh-grade social studies teachet in the North Penn School District.

Gary Pagliaro stepped down as Hatboro-Horsham's coach after three seasons. The Hatters went 1-11 overall and 1-6 in the Suburban One Continental Conference last season.

"We are committed to creatting the best program possible that will leads to Hatter victories throughout 2013," Hatboro-Horsham athletic director Lou James said in the statement. "The goal is put programs into place that help our student-athletes attain their goals."
