PHILADELPHIA – Outscoring Temple 10-2 in overtime, the Saint Joseph's women's basketball team snapped its 13-game losing streak to the Owls with a 49-41 win Sunday afternoon at Hagan Arena. Saint Joseph's got a combined 36 points from senior Ashley Prim (Ansonia, Conn./Kolbe Cathedral), redshirt sophomore Natasha Cloud (Broomall, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) and redshirt senior Chatilla van Grinsven (Helmond, Netherland/Dr. Kippenberg College) as the Hawks improved to 18-6 overall and 9-1 in the Atlantic 10.

Leading 39-38 with less than 20 seconds to play, Saint Joseph's made a costly turnover underneath its own basket as Tyonna Williams stole a pass and was fouled immediately. Williams hit the first of two free throws, but missed the backend as Cloud grabbed the rebound.

Following a Saint Joseph's timeout with :08 left to play, Cloud's fade-away shot from the top of the key hit off the back of the rim, leading to overtime.

In the extra frame, a jumper by Victoria Macaulay gave Temple a 41-39 lead at 4:18.

It was all Saint Joseph's from there though as it scored 10-straight points. After a jumper by Cloud tied the game, Erin Shields' (Drexel Hill, Pa./Archbishop Carroll) layup made it 43-41. After missed opportunities at both ends, van Grinsven gambled on a Temple pass up the right wing, stealing the ball and going coast-to-coast for the layup to make it a 45-41 game.

After another defensive stop, junior Ashley Robinson (Warminster, Pa./Archbishop Wood) would hit a pair of free throws to make it a six-point lead, while Prim iced the contest with two free throws with 1:11 to go to make it 49-41.

The Hawks, who held the Owls to 0-for-6 and a turnover after their opening basket, would get two more stops in the final minute to close out the victory.

In a defensive first half that saw neither team shoot over 28 percent, Temple jumped out to an 18-12 lead, but the Hawks countered with six-straight points to tie it at 18-18 all on a Prim three-pointer.

The Owls would get a free throw with less than a minute to go from Sally Kabengano to take a 19-18 lead into halftime.

In the second half, the Hawks opened a 35-29 lead on a pair of Prim free throws midway through, but Temple answered back with a 7-0 run to make it 36-35 in favor of the Owls with 7:27 to go.

Saint Joseph's scored four of the next six points before the frantic final minute.

For the game, Saint Joseph's shot just 29.4 percent (20-of-68), while hitting only 1-of-8 from three-point range, but 8-of-9 from the foul line. At the other end, Temple was harassed to just 25.9 percent overall (15-of-58), including 3-of-15 from behind the arc and 8-of-12 from the foul line. Saint Joseph's outrebounded the Owls 48-43 and outscored Temple 26-18 in the paint.

Individually, Prim and Cloud each had 13 points apiece, with Prim adding seven rebounds and three assists and Cloud finishing with six rebounds and two steals. In the paint, van Grinsven posted her 11th double-double of the season, scoring 10 points to go with 13 rebounds, four steals and three blocked shots.

At the other end, Natasha Thames had a game-high 15 points and 14 rebounds.
