Football: Imhotep's Young bound for Rhode Island

Imhotep Charter's Eerin Young, whose development as a multipurpose standout began with the Oak Lane Wildcats, has landed a football scholarship.

At the end of an official visit last weekend, the 5-foot-9, 175-pound senior committed to play for Rhode Island. "It was just the perfect fit," he said. "Coach [Joe] Trainer and the other coaches showed me a lot of love."

Young starred at Imhotep as a wide receiver and running back. Last season, while helping the 14-1 Panthers advance to the PIAA Class AA state semifinals, he rushed for 1,000-plus yards and scored 21 touchdowns.

The 17-year-old, who lives near 21st and Lehigh in North Philly, also received interest from California (Pa.), Indiana (Pa.), and Stony Brook.
