Valley Forge Military Academy to join PIAA

Valley Forge Military Academy has been accepted as a member of the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (PIAA), beginning with the 2013-14 school year.

VFMA, an all-male day and boarding school founded in 1928, will initially compete as an independent member in District 1, with an AA classification in most sports. The school will participate in basketball, baseball, football, cross-country, swimming, lacrosse, soccer, wrestling, and track and field.

"Our prior model featured post-graduate athletes," VFMA athletic director Dominick "Mick" Lorusso said in a statement. "While that program benefited those young men and the Academy, finding teams willing to play a team with post-graduates was shutting us out of the Pennsylvania sports scene. We are looking forward to the competition among other schools in our region, and especially our state, for all of our sports teams."
