Hello, is Mr. Morgan home?

As someone who hears the word ‘deport’ or some variation of it on a daily basis, I don’t get too excited when someone says that someone else should be deported.  In fact, it induces yawns.  Just because you might want a fellow to be deported (the correct term of art is ‘removed’) does not mean that they should be, will be or even can be.  For example, the Boston Globe recently did a profoundly troubling expose about criminal aliens who cannot be deported from the United States even though they have committed horrific crimes simply because their own countries of origin will not take them back (no big surprise there…)

But it’s not too often that I get to hear the word ‘deport’ in the same sentence as ‘Big CNN journalist.’  More specifically, it’s the rare moment when someone with the high profile of a Piers Morgan gets people ready and willing to ship him back to the mother country.  In his case-and ours, that would be the Mother of All Countries, Great Britain.

Morgan is a subject of Good Queen Bess, as anyone who listens to him speak for thirty seconds already knows.  To my knowledge, he has neither applied for nor obtained a US passport.  This means that he could be kicked out on his arse if Uncle Sam wished to do the kicking.  But there would have to be a pretty good reason to do so.

Personally, while I find him immensely obnoxious, I do not think that calling for the abolition of the Second Amendment is a deportable offense.  In fact, I'm pretty sure it's not.  When referring to the index in the Bill of Rights, you generally trip over the First Amendment before you make it to the Second.  They are equally important, and equally beloved by their supporters.  And the one does not cancel the other out.  Therefore, while I think that Morgan has gone off the hysterical cliff with his ravings about guns and babies and the evil men in the NRA, it should not be enough to get him shown to the border.  Or wherever.

    LOL - this whole thing is a hoot, Chris. I am not a particular fan of Piers Morgan, but you are of course correct that he has as much right while living here to the same protection under our laws as any citizen.

    Therefore, he has as much right to free speech as any other rabble rousing talk show host. The proper response to disagreement is of course to boycott his show or its sponsors.

    I have read somewhere that there is a counter-petition going around to keep Morgan at his post.

    I am betting his ratings rise.

    He can't become a U.S. president, because, you know, a lot of Brits were born in Kenya.

    Thoughtless, it is the Brits who are petitioning to keep Morgan in the US because they don't want him back in the UK and also because they just want to irritate the Yanks.

    Also, all persons who live within the jurisdiction of the USA have the same rights to equal protection under the law as anyone else.

    According to the 14th Amendment:
    "Nor shall any State deprive any person of life, liberty, or property without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws..."

    This does not mean they can vote but they can expect to be protected just like anyone else.


    So of course, just because some Americans want Morgan kicked out, it does make it happen.

    People get upset if you insult their religion or their priests, which apparently Morgan has done. I'm not a huge fan, but his calling the gun man "incredibly stupid" was delicious, all the more for its accuracy.

    The gun people want their arsenals so they can protect us from a tyrannical government, yet they want to kick some guy out of the country because he disagrees with them. They complain about people violating their 2nd amendment rights, while they have no problem violation someone else's 1st amendment rights.

    As Mr. Morgan said, these are indeed incredibly stupid people. He could also have added hypocritical, immoral and worthless.

    As far "as the evil men in the NRA" go, seeing how assault rifle sales have gone through the roof in the last few weeks, I wouldn't be surprised if they are not trying to figure out how to incite the next mass shooting. There's big money in all the blood and death.

    And who would dare criticize our free enterprise system? Deport them if they dare.
