Support Local Journalism

Why is local ownership and independence worth saving?
Primarily because it benefits you -- our readers, advertisers, employees and communities. As America's largest locally owned and operated media company, there are things we're able to do that corporate owners won't. Like investigative reports that recently led to improvements in child health care, property tax assessment, local post office operation and more. Or support for over 200 local non-profit organizations. Not to mention paying $49 million in local, state, and federal taxes, and employing 13,600 full-time, part-time employees and independent contractors.
We believe passionately in local ownership, and we need YOUR support. Show that you support local and independent journalism too by signing our petition below.

We need a strong local newspaper!
QStrong local newspapers (including on-line editions) published by professional journalists, are the lifeblood of the community. Local ownership far better understands the issues and institutions important to all of us, from the Phillies to he courts, to SEPTA to the arts, to the suburbs. It would be a tragedy to the region to lose this local ownership.

Keep It Local!
QPhiladelphia is big enough, diverse enough, historical enough, and important enough to have a local, independent newspaper. Love the reporting work of the Philadelphia Inquirer.

Keep it local
QThe Philadelphia Inquirer makes a difference in Philadelphia. Keep it’s ownership in Philadelphia so it can continue to do the important work it does.

Decentralize the flow
QIf we want a functioning democracy around here, we have to be informed. If we want to be truly informed, we can't have the flow of information and our sources for perspective relegated to the control of an oligopoly of large corporations--whose priorities are providing maximized returns for big-time stockholders and fat compensation packages for execs. --And whose priorities may also include gatekeeping out views that they might deem contrary to their short-run or long-term wellbeing.

corporate owned is lousy
QIf you want to see the difference between local and a conglomerate owner, just read the Courier post. It can't hold a candle to the Philly papers. Keep it local

QYou need to have a personal touch to the news. How can you accurately report an event or the mood of a community from a desk somewhere in the US or outsourced to India?

I want an independent newspaper!
QNewspapers that are owned by huge conglomerates or single individuals who own an entire media "empire" are dangerous to the free and unregulated press. We need to keep the Inquirer independently and locally owned!
