Clarinet, cello and piano: The combination isn't so unusual, but the music that comes with it isn't particularly mainstream. The most faithful Philadelphia Chamber Music Society patrons on Monday night were heard asking, "Do you know any of these composers?" - but not in horror.

Talented cast can't put bite into Russian satire

Back in the day (the day being 1840), when Nicholas I was Czar of All the Russias, there was strict censorship of stage plays - especially social satires of officious officials. How Nikolay Gogol sidestepped the censors and not only got approval for The Government Inspector but also got the czar to come on opening night, was, no doubt, a drama in itself. Lantern Theater's opening night was not quite so starry nor so fraught. (Where is City Council when you need it?)
