Afghanistan: The Forgotten War
Audio Interview | Staff Sgt. Jerry Neal
Platoon sergeant, Omaha, Neb.
"The Afghans, these people are smart, if you ask me. They understand everything that's going on."
Audio: "I got to do it regardless of what people think."
Staff Sgt. Jerry Neal, 34, has served in the Army for 10 years, including a one-year stint in Iraq. He says Afghanistan is totally different from Iraq. "This is more direct," he said.
He also noticed that public support in America is greater for the war in Afghanistan than for Iraq. He said public opinion doesn't affect his feeling about either war, since his duty is to follow orders.
